Comparison of Joseph & Jesus

I find this totally fascinating. Alas the work is not mine but its good to read it and use it as a study tool and some thoughtprovoking ideas.

Gen 37 v 3 Jacob loved his son Joseph more than all his sons.
Matt 3 v 17 God spoke from the heavens saying “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.”

Gen 37 v 14 Joseph lived in Hebron (a place of fellowship). He was sent by his Father to Shechem to see after the welfare of his brothers.
Philippians 2 v 5-7 Although he existed in the presence of God, humbled himself in the form of a bond servant and took on the likeness of man.
John 3 v 16. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. Jesus grew up in a place of fellowship with his father and was sent by his father to see after the welfare of his brothers.

Gen 37 v 2 Joseph brought back a bad report about his brothers to his father. His brothers hated him.
John 15 v 18 Jesus testified to his father about the sins of his brothers & they hated him.

Gen 37 v 5 Joseph had a dream and revealed to his brothers the exalted position he would receive & his brothers hated him even more.
Matt 24 v 30-31 They will see the son of man coming in the sky in power and glory and all the tribes of the earth will have sorrow and they will hate him.

Gen 37 v 18 His brothers plotted against him to put him to death
Matt 26 v 15 Jesus brothers plotted against him to put him to death,

Gen 37 v 26 – 28 Judah sold Joseph for 20 pieces of silver.
Matt 26 v 15 Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

Gen 39 Joseph tempted to the utmost and endured.
Matt 4 v 11 Jesus tempted to the utmost and endured.

Gen 39 v 13 -18 Joseph accused falsely
Matt 26 v 59-65 Chief priest tried to claim false testimony from Jesus in order to put him to death.

Gen 39 v 20 Joseph sentenced and condemned along with two criminals.
Mark 15 v 27-28 Jesus condemned along with two criminals.

Gen 40 v 20 – 22 One criminal lived, one criminal died.
Luke 23 v 39-43 One criminal ‘lived’ (in paradise), one criminal died.

Joseph was betrayed in to the hands of the Gentiles. God took this betrayal, turned it on its head so Joseph could save the world.
Jesus was betrayed into the hands of Gentiles. God took this betrayal and turned it on its head so Jesus could save all Israel and all the world.

Gen 41 v 14 Joseph taken from the dungeon, a place of death and raised by the King to a place of glory, in one day; in one instance.

Joseph’s brothers did not recognise him at their first coming, but only at their second coming.

During the first coming, Joseph uses the Egyptian officials (gentiles) to give bread to his brothers. Only during the second coming does he send the Egyptians away and reveals his true identity.
Zech 12 v 10 They will mourn for him like a son. Brothers didn’t recognise Jesus at the first coming, but will do so at the second coming and they will weep. They realise the one they have betrayed is the exalted one. The Son of Joseph is the Son of David; The suffering servant is the conquering King. When the peoples repent he’ll forgive them.
Jesus us now using gentiles (Christians) to give spiritual food (the bread of life) to his brothers (the Jews). A time will come when he will reveal himself to his brothers.
